iPhone evidence checklist

Match the exact device before buying the plan

iPhone model family, purchase region, carrier lock, installed software, and the eSIM provider's device list are separate checks. This sample keeps unresolved evidence visible.

Static labelled sample. No account details, phone numbers, addresses, selections, or free text are requested or stored.

An eSIM settings area is visible, but carrier-lock status and the selected provider's current model match have not been confirmed.

Compatibility evidence checklist

Pause the purchase until the exact identifier and lock state agree with Apple and the selected provider's current instructions.

  • Exact deviceRecord the device's model identifier and purchase-region evidence from the phone or original record.
  • eSIM capabilityConfirm Apple documents eSIM support for that exact device and region.
  • Carrier lockResolve any carrier restriction through the responsible carrier before installation.
  • Provider matchCompare the exact device with the selected plan provider's current compatibility and installation terms.

Bounded task states

Exact match confirmed

Apple device evidence and the selected provider's current list both support the exact device identifier and setup path.

Block identified

The exact device lacks the required eSIM capability, remains carrier-locked, or is excluded by the selected provider.

Evidence incomplete

A model-family name or appearance is available, but the exact identifier, lock state, or provider match is not.

Known

  • The sample phone exposes an eSIM-related settings area.

Assumed

  • The traveller intends to buy a travel eSIM from a named provider for this exact phone.

Unknown

  • Exact model identifier, purchase-region capability, carrier-lock state, and provider eligibility.

Confirm with owner

  • Apple, the carrier, and the selected eSIM provider confirm their respective compatibility conditions.

Review my phone setup

Verify the device, not just the marketing name

  • Use Apple's current instructions to identify the exact model and purchase-region variant shown on your phone.
  • Check the carrier-lock status in the device information Apple directs you to use. If the status is unclear, the current carrier is the confirmation owner.
  • Compare that exact model with both Apple's technical specifications and the travel-eSIM provider's current supported-device list.
  • Confirm that the phone's current software version meets the provider's installation requirements before you buy.
Two phones sold under the same iPhone family name can have different SIM capabilities. A provider checker is useful only when it covers your exact model or identifier.

Check the plan separately from the phone

A compatible phone can install an eSIM, but that says nothing about the plan's China coverage, routing, validity start, data allowance, hotspot rules, phone-number capability, or access to a particular app. Those are plan terms owned by the provider.

  • Match the supported country and exact product name, not a general provider brand page.
  • Read when installation is allowed and what event starts the validity period; follow the current provider instructions rather than a generic sequence.
  • If you need SMS or a local number, require an explicit plan statement instead of assuming those features come with eSIM support.

Keep a recovery path before installation

  • Save the provider's installation and support instructions somewhere you can open without the new data plan.
  • Do not remove an existing line or eSIM merely to make room unless the phone maker and responsible carriers confirm the consequences and recovery path.
  • Keep the purchase record and exact plan name available for provider support, without publishing activation codes or account details.
  • Prepare offline lodging and arrival information so a device or activation mismatch does not block the trip from the airport.
Only Apple can document the model's hardware and software behavior; the carrier confirms lock status; the eSIM provider confirms plan eligibility and activation. None of those sources alone can guarantee end-to-end service after arrival.

Common questions

Is the iPhone name enough to check eSIM support?

No. Verify the exact model and purchase-region variant using Apple's current instructions, then compare it with the travel provider's supported-device list.

Does an unlocked eSIM-compatible iPhone guarantee a China plan will work?

No. It clears only part of the device check. The exact provider still owns China coverage, activation, plan features, and support for that product.
