Does Google Maps work in China?

What Google documents

Google's current help page says offline-map downloads are unavailable in some countries or regions because of contractual limitations, language support, or address formats. It also says offline mode does not supply public-transport, cycling, or walking directions. The page does not establish dependable mainland-China positioning or routing, so this guide does not claim it.

Build a navigation fallback

  • Use the airport, rail operator, or municipal transport source for the first transfer and save that route offline.
  • Install a locally supported map or transport app that you can test on your actual device; feature and language support can change.
  • Keep your lodging's property-confirmed name, address, and phone separately from any map pin.

If Google access matters

Require a current primary-source statement from the exact carrier or eSIM plan. Airalo currently documents Google access for its own China, regional Asia, and global eSIMs; that evidence does not transfer to every roaming or eSIM product.

Network access and app features change. Test the route and fallback you will actually use before leaving the airport or station.
