Choose one app for each job

Data: use the carrier or eSIM app attached to your exact plan. Confirm device support, activation, validity, and whether it provides data only or also a number and SMS.
Payment: use Alipay or Weixin Pay as the primary wallet only after its current setup completes. Keep a fallback that does not depend on the same card, issuer, phone, or data connection.
Maps: current official listings describe AMap Global by AutoNavi as English or multilingual and show route and public-transport features. Confirm the installed build and test your hotel route.
Ride hailing: install DiDi-Greater China only if it fits your arrival plan. Its current listing describes an English interface, international-number login, bilingual communication, and international-card options, but one pickup or payment is never guaranteed.
Rail: use the official 12306 route only when your itinerary needs train booking or retrieval; keep the booking and identity details the operator requires.

Rehearse the task, not just the login

Open the data-plan instructions and save its support route while you still have home Wi-Fi.
Confirm the wallet shows the intended card or payment route, while remembering that setup cannot prove a future merchant transaction.
Search the provider-confirmed hotel name and compare the destination with the Chinese address and phone supplied by the property.
For a booked train, flight, or hotel, sign in and save the original confirmation and required identity details offline.

Keep an offline and staffed recovery path

An installed app can still fail because of an account, card, verification, connection, pickup, or live product change. Keep your hotel name, full Chinese address, phone, booking references, and an emergency contact available without the same app session. At an airport or station, follow current signs and use a marked taxi rank or staffed desk when the digital route is unclear.

Official listings establish current availability and stated features, not that every menu, place name, account, card, route, or transaction will work for one traveler.
