How do I handle the first 24 hours in China with kids?

Choose the practical check you need next
Prepare helps you choose Phone, Payment, Entry, or Arrival. It does not turn this situation into a separate readiness score.
Getting from the airport
- A booked car or the official taxi queue is usually easier than a metro transfer with kids, bags, and a stroller.
- Have your hotel address saved in Chinese so the driver gets you straight there.
- Pack a small bag with water, snacks, wipes, and any medicine in your carry-on for the ride.
Settling in
- Find the nearest convenience store or supermarket for water, snacks, and anything you forgot — they're everywhere and open late.
- Hot water is widely available for bottles and formula; many hotels provide a kettle.
- Choose a hotel near a mall or pharmacy so a forgotten item is a short walk, not a crisis.
Day one, kept simple
Aim for one low-key outing — a nearby park, a short walk, or a relaxed meal — and let everyone nap. Save the big sights for once the family has adjusted. A calm first day sets up the rest of the trip.
