Can I use PayPal in China with Weixin Pay?
Last updated 2026-06-02
What the PayPal–Weixin Pay link is
PayPal and Weixin Pay have introduced a way for some international visitors to pay Chinese merchants through WeChat using their PayPal account. It's a recent integration, and the rollout — which countries and account types are eligible — is still uneven.
Don't rely on it alone
- Set up Alipay and WeChat Pay with a foreign Visa or Mastercard as your primary method.
- Keep about 500 RMB cash and one ATM-capable card as backup.
- If the PayPal link works for you, treat it as a useful extra — not your only way to pay.
This is a newer, changing arrangement. Confirm it's actually available for your country and account before you travel, and don't treat it as guaranteed.
